HSE Teambuilding Workshop Sample
Objective:
To assess the team work of the Emergency Response teams while under pressure.
Time: One day
In the morning: Gather and Divide group - Ice-breakers; Fire Safety Presentation; BRP exercise and ECC exercise; Key Learning.
In the afternoon: Ice-breakers - The Gold Key - Wrap up and Awards.
Scenario 1: “It is Monday afternoon, and the evacuation alarm has gone off in the main office. It is reported that there is a fire on the sixth floor of the seven floor office building. After evacuation, it is reported that there are people trapped on the top floor, some of them being your close friends, and the sprinkler system did not go off. The fire department has arrived, and is starting to put out the fire.“
+What have been your actions up until this point? Please document all of the things that have needed to happen to make this fault free pending an investigation.
Scenario 2: It is Monday evening at 8pm, and the fire is under control. At this point, it is found that there were two casualties, and the office building will be out of service for at least a month.
+What will you do between now and the end of Tuesday? Please document everything that needs to be done in the ensuing 24 hours.
Exercise: The teams will go into a room and spend 50 minutes documenting and preparing chart pads with the data requested for the exercise. There will be no leniency on time, as sometimes we all have to work under extreme pressure. The teams will return with their findings only to find out that the exercise was intended to evaluate their team work not their knowledge. The information will not be discarded however, it will be passed on to HSE Manager for his evaluation. The teams will be sent back to their team room for 15 min. to look at the following:
+What did they do right as a team? What did they do wrong as a team? In the event of an emergency what could they do to improve? How do they feel as a team about their performance? Each team will take 5 minutes to present their data to the group. The information will be passed on to HSE Manager.
